April Kolanchick of Sweet & Saucy Life

I’m a wife, mom, autism advocate, and self-taught cookie artist who found my calling when I least expected it. I teach women how to decorate beautiful sugar cookies and then help them take it a step further by showing them how to monetize their knowledge and talents.

I live in just north of Kansas City, MO with my husband Josh (aka the Hubster) and our Fantastic Four; Madison, Garrett, Jackson, and Miss Scarlett.

Jen Wight of Emily Mae's Cookies

Emily Mae’s Cookies started nearly 3 years ago while I was home on maternity leave with our second son. While scrolling facebook, a tutorial came up on decorating sugar cookies – I tried it and I was HOOKED! As a student of culinary arts, I’ve always had a passion for presentation and all things culinary, so it seemed to be the perfect fit! After many talks with hubby, we decided to make a go of a little ‘at home’ cookie business and to not return to my full time job. It was a scary decision, but I’m so glad we did it!

Coming up with a business name – I wanted something personal & friendly with a dash of charm mixed in. After giving it lot’s of thought, my middle name came to mind – ‘Emily Mae’. This comes from my grandmothers, one Emily, the other Mae. PERFECT, that’s it! We’ve got it!

Working from home with 2 boys has been challenging, but I don’t think I’ve ever been more proud for having pushed and worked so hard to do my little part in helping support our family.

Thanks to a wonderfully supportive community, Emily Mae’s has grown a fantastic and supportive customer base. So now, with the little one heading to school in the fall, we are now making big steps to move the business forward and I am SO EXCITED for what the future holds!

Cameo Robinson of CR Confections

Cameo Robinson is the owner of CR Confections, a home bakery located in Olathe Ks. She began her business 5 years ago doing custom cookie orders using glaze icing. She loves the creative outlet custom orders allow her.

While her custom orders still rule her daily life, teaching cookie decorating is her passion. She has been teaching private and online classes for the last 3 years. She has taught at Cookiers Live and at Cookie. Con as an add on instructor. She has just started a new monthly cookie group for all things glaze. She enjoys sharing her love of glaze icing and cookie decorating with everyone.

She has 3 kiddos and a very supportive husband! Her oldest son is 19, a 13 year old daughter, and an 11 year old daughter. She was an elementary teacher for 10 years before staying at home with her daughters. She got into cookies as an outlet for her to help with depression after her youngest. Being creative is in her blood and being able to make something beautiful AND delicious was the perfect medicine for her soul.

Other than being a cookier, a wife, and a mom, Cameo loves to have a good laugh with friends and family with a good glass of wine in her hand.

Carmen Urbano of inspirations by Carmen Urbano

Carmen Urbano’s story is quite interesting and inspiring tale. Born in Tijuana, México, Carmen grew up in a loving home where her sense of creativity and flair was nurtured. This, amongst other things, helped her find her potential.

She started out earning a degree in Graphic Arts, got a floral design diploma and along the line she opted in for a law degree for the sake of assisting in her family’s business.

Carmen had had a great and successful career. However, she felt a gap needed to be filled so she took the risky path to fulfill her longings. She left the law field after 19 years of successful career as an attorney. She gave it all away for a bigger dream – “Inspiration’s by Carmen Urbano” where she decided to take up a space in the world of creative arts where she is now sharing her talents and skills.  It was a risky but a fun move!

What was only a dream was birthed in 2010.  Inspirations by Carmen Urbano was an inception of a great thing.  The popularity of Carmen’s cookie creation led her to focus in sugar cookies, combining her love of baking with her vast creative skills.  She developed love for sugar arts and her invitation to teach what she knew at renowned culinary schools in Mexico, changed everything.

They became experiences that lightened up her passion for teaching.  She has become such an inspiration to her students.

Carmen’s “cookie creations” became a known name and brand specializing in making sugar and gingerbread cookies. She can mix creativity and passion to make it all work out.  She now has numerous awards to her name so finally she could smile and boast of the courage she had put in taking that risky but quite inspiring decision.

Beyond the cookies her act of creativity is amazing. She has advanced her business which has gone global, thanks to her talent and passion for teaching among the help of her social media pages.

Several of her creative works have been featured on major cable networks in the USA, where they have delighted American audience in competitions such as Food Network’s Holiday Gingerbread Showdown™ Season 2 in 2019. She has been invited to travel internationally for cookie conventions, classes, and private lessons. Carmen and her sugar art pieces have also been featured in several of the industry’s leading events, including CookieCon™ SoFlo, San Diego Cake Show and CookieExpo™ among others.

Carmen’s sugar art has earned her numerous international decoration and sugar art awards.
